Why do you need to spend hours behind a sentence?

Because it is going to be the first thing your audience reads. And as we all know, “FIRST IMPRESSIONS are important”.

Study the headlines of these master copywriters. Try to imitate. Try the best practices. It is better to build up on tested formulas, and then try making your headline a hit.

The headlines of their million dollar sales letters will make you curious to the point that you HAVE to start reading the rest of the copy. And once you start reading there’s no going back.

These are some tips which will help you craft a Headline like a Master Copywriter:

Correct me if I’m wrong:

What’s the point giving A DAY to an excellent article or an Ad Copy and then deciding on your Headline in the last 10 seconds?

You might as well not expect people to click on it.

Keeping in mind these lines which I’ve read in 100 articles that “A Good Headline increase your conversion rate by 50%”, let’s start drawing out pointers which will help you drive these conversations.

1. Self-interest Headlines

  • “FREE Book tells you 5 secrets on how to write better”
  • “Get rid of Skin Problems for good”

The audience is always interested in knowing “WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?”

And you need to talk exactly about that. No one likes a person who beats around the bush.

2. Scarcity Headlines

  • FREE candies for teens – Rs.50 for others
  • Demo Classes for the first 5 inquiries for our Fashion Designing Course
  • FREE Consultation for this week only

Avoid giving your audience the chance to think of coming back again. Make them feel that there’s no coming back, it’s now or never.

3. Is that a Problem I’m facing Headline

  • Do you make these mistakes while writing your copy?
  • Do you make these writing mistakes?

Make your audience think whether they’re doing it correctly or not? And when they start wondering, they will want to know for sure. This is when they will take action.

4. News Headlines

  • Announcing the new technology for Lasik treatment.
  • Introducing the new method to get straight teeth.
  • At Last! We have found the solution for crooked teeth.

According to John Caples, news headlines works best. They give your audience a sense of hope that this is something different and it’s going to be better than what I’ve tried before.

We all read newspapers. And what we read first? The headline.

News Headlines makes us want to know more.

5. “How-to” Headlines

  • How to get white teeth in 3 days?
  • How to make your child a human calculator?
  • How to earn Rs.1000 in 24 hours?

The “How-to” headline gets the most number of clicks on the internet. The one thing you need to focus here is to appeal to the wants or need or desire of the prospect.

There is something they want help with. Now it’s your job to find out what they need and how you’re going to address that need.

There are many other ways in which you can write your Headlines. It depends on which kind works for your blogs, ads or campaigns. One last tip is to always test and then use the winner. The headline which you think is the best, might not appeal to the user’s needs and hence can be a big reason why your campaigns fail.
